Cast Iron Cookware … if the item becomes "rusty" do you take or can it be cleaned?
Are there remedies to address this specific problem? I always heard that cast iron lasts forever
Seasoning cast iron can be seasoned considered the "father" paste "Today" non-cooking. Cast iron pans must be seasoned properly and it will last a lifetime. (I still use my grandmother my cast iron stoves on a regular basis and they must be at least 60 to 70 years and older.) New Pans heat oven to 250o – 300o Coat the pan with lard or bacon grease. Do not use a liquid vegetable oil because it leaves a sticky surface and the tank will not be properly seasoned. Put pan in oven. In 15 minutes, remove the pan and pour off any excess grease. Place the pan back in oven and cook for 2 hours. Repeating this process several times is recommended as it will help create a stronger "seasoning" bond. So when you put the pan in service, it is recommended to use it primarily for foods high in fat, such as bacon or foods cooked with fat, because fat from these foods will help strengthen the seasoning. Pans need Re-seasoning the pan was not seasoned properly or a portion of the seasoning wore off and food sticks to the surface or there is rust, then it should be thoroughly cleaned and re-seasoned. Remove all food residue by cleaning the pan thoroughly with hot water and a scouring pad. I understand that heating the pan first a temperature that is always safe to touch helps open the pores of the metal and makes it easier to clean. Dry the pan immediately with a cloth or towel paper. Season the tray as shown above. Caring for Cast Iron Cookware Seasoning a cast iron skillet is a natural creative Kitchenware non-adhesive. And as you cook and clean the modern non-stick cookware with special care to avoid scratching the surface, your cast iron cookware wants special attention too. Clean the kitchen while still hot by rinsing with hot water and scraping when necessary. Do not use a scouring pad or soap (detergent) as they decompose pan seasoning. Not store food in cast iron pan as the acid in food will breakdown the seasoning and the food will take on a metallic taste. Store your cast iron cookware with the lids off, especially during wet, because if covered, moisture can accumulate and cause rust. If rust appears, the tank must be re-seasoned. When you Buy Cookware cast iron, they are medium gray, but after use, they start turning darker. (My pans are very black.) This is normal and can be expected.
