What U.S. company continues to make large items?
Say Lodge Cookware and cast iron for Corelle dishes. No matter the use of cast iron and I wonder about the dishes too (lead in the glaze).
Patti, I'm not sure what you suggest is possible. Even when something is manufactured in the U.S., do not always know who owns the company now, when the parts in the product is, or if no company imports;. For example, mentioned Lodge cookware cast iron that I agree makes great products manufactured by a company owned by people in the U.S. However, Lodge now imports some of their products: "Well, in our second century in business, Lodge now imports two lines of Enamel Coated Cast Iron Cookware in China." Cast Iron Lodge website http://www.lodgemfg.com/lodge-history.asp Four generations of men in my family (my mother's side and my father's side) have worked in factories Steel located in eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia, and some of my cousins and their children still do. Since the 1970 factories have closed significantly reduced. My hometown is a shadow of its former self, with far fewer well-paid jobs. Is also a landscape that is marked by mining Coal and has kept running over toxic waste in manufacturing. The oldest steel mill in the U.S. was owned for many decades. Now, is part of a conglomerate owned by a Russian corporation. At least this little ole plant in Mingo Junction Ohio is still open despite operating well below capacity I had as a child. With operations in West Virginia and Ohio, Severstal Wheeling is both a fully integrated operation steel plant and a electric arc furnace, which the division of unparalleled flexibility in their operations and products. While shouting slogans instead of investing in companies U.S. property with our savings and pensions, to educate and train ourselves to succeed in a global market, making things without polluting the area, and be willing to change course in order to seize opportunities, and then things will not improve.
