i have a chef mate saucepan.how do i know if it is anodized or teflon coated?how safe is Anodized Cookware?
Aluminum is a highly reactive metal that can leak into your food if used as a pure metal. Anodized aluminum is aluminum that has been treated in a chemical bath to form a non-reactive, extremely hard oxide coating on the outside of the cookware to prevent this from happening. Anondized cookware is safe. It typically comes with a non-stick, non-scratch surface as well to make it more durable. Teflon specifically is safe as long as you don’t heat it above 500 degrees. Good Housekeeping did a study and found that you could heat a pan to that temperature in less then 2 minutes, so caution is necessary.
If there is nothing on the bottom or side of the pan describing it’s make up I would look for like pans in the store and check the box for a description.
